The design called for a fireplace.  The client's final selection was a fireplace open on all three sides that was made of concrete, heavy enough that the original structure couldn’t support it.  CHS worked with the structural engineer to reposition a steel beam and enhance the framing to carry the load. None of the required changes were visible on the surface. The exterior of the fireplace was finished in custom welded steel and a hand wax treatment to get the exact look the client wanted. Challenges like that don't show up in the final photography.

Three species of reclaimed wood, brought in from out of state. They were laid throughout, detailed by the crew. Hemlock ceiling, pivot hinge entry door, floating stairs with glass railings designed in-house, down to how the glass seats in the frame, and custom welded steel shelf inserts. Reclaimed exterior siding, centered, laid and screwed by hand.
